Arrival in Ljubljana and start of Slovenia in a week tour. Free day for individual walks, shopping or visiting some of the coffee shops along the river. Accommodation in Ljubljana.
In the morning walk around the old part of Ljubljana and later a drive towards another picturesque town, Novo mesto, where we stop for a short walking tour around old town centre. We continue our journey in the Dolenjska region and stop at the famous Otočec Castle, situated in the middle of the Krka river, possible lunch (extra). After, drive to Čatež spa resort and free time in the afternoon. You can go for a swim in the numerous mineral water swimming pools or try out different spa facilities. Optional dinner at the restaurant of Mokrice Castle. Overnight in Čatež area.
From Čatež we drive throug Bizeljsko region towards Olimje Monastery to visit one of the oldest pharmacies in Europe. Drive via Rogaška Slatina, one of the oldest spa resorts in Europe, famous for its glass industry, and continue towards Ptuj, the oldest and one of the most beautiful towns in Slovenia. Stroll through the old part and walk up the castle above the old town. After the visit drive to wine-producing area called Jeruzalem where we stop for a late lunch and some wine tasting. Drive to Maribor for an overnight.
After breakfast, walk around the second biggest town of Slovenia, Maribor, famous for its over 400 years old vine and beautiful Lent along Drava river. Lunch in Maribor and drive towards Volčji Potok Arboretum, the largest and most popular botanical garden in Slovenia. In late afternoon drive to Alpine pearl resort, Bled. Visit of the island with its small church in the middle of the lake and the Bled castle for its amazing view. Of course you have to try the local delicacy, ´kremšnita´ (cream cake dessert). Check-in to the hotel and overnight in Bled.
In the morning visit of the Vintgar gorge, carved into the rocks by the river Radovna. Afterwards we continue towards Bohinj, another Alpine lake where you will go up the mountain Vogel with a cable car ride for some fantastic panoramic views over the Julian Alps. We reccomend having lunch on the mountain (extra). Return to Bled and free time for individual walks around the lake. In the evening visit of another medieval town, Radovljica, for a typical Slovenian dinner (extra). Return to Bled for an overnight.
In the morning drive via Kranjska Gora, over mountainpass Vršič into the valley of river Soča for some breathtaking views. Possible visit of Fort Kluze (from WWI) and Kobarid Museum (WWI) which in 1993 received an award for best European museum. Stops along the river and in town Bovec, known as a small tourist centre for all the adrenaline seekers. In the evening we continue to Goriška Brda (famous wine-producing region) to taste some local wine and to have a fine dinner in one of the restaurants. Overnight in Goriška Brda.
After breakfast we drive through the Karst Region, taste some fine wines and pršut and visit the medieval village of Štanjel. You will visit Lipica stud farm to admire stables white Lipizzaner horses and the performance of Spanish riding school. Head to nearby Škocjan Caves, UNESCO World Heritage site. In the evening we will head to the coast to admire Mediterranean coastal gem Piran, located on picturesqu peninsula. Overnight in Piran.
In the morning some free time to enjoy in walks through Piran and transfer to the airport.
